Tirrany Thurmond is the founder and principal consultant for Idaltu Counseling & Consulting, an educational consulting firm that specializes in the healing practices of mental health counseling, social justice advocacy and antiracism education. Tirrany’s curiosity about people — who they are, how they evolve, where they hurt — guides her work as a practitioner and facilitator. Justice and healing are inextricably connected and therefore must be considered when co-designing a new system for all.
Her professional tenure consists of advising executive leaders on matters of diversity and inclusion, the dismantling of unjust systems, communal care and reparation, leading strategic initiatives for racial and gender equity, creating equitable programs/initiatives for historically underserved populations, facilitating learning experiences to build constituents’ capacity for change and EDI work.
As a consultant, she uses a multitude of approaches to assist organizations in strategically developing and implementing diversity, equity, and inclusion goals. Her past clients are Chick-Fil-A, the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA), FHI360, Best Kids, Johns Hopkins University – Bloomberg School of Public Health, Baltimore Jewish Council, SMITH, The Baltimore Friends, Anne Arundel Women’s Giving Circle, Annapolis Neighborhood Leadership Academy, and The King Center’s Beloved Community Talks.
